Maurice “Mo” Pearson posted almost $43,000 in third quarter donations, in a strong start for the Orlando Republican as he runs for the House District 47 seat.
Pearson began his campaign July 31, raising $42,765 through September 30. House District 47 covers much of Orange County, East Orlando, Winter Park and Belle Isle.
The GOP businessman faces incumbent Democrat Rep. Linda Stewart, who raised $11,690 during the same period, for an overall total of just over $33,000. Pearson does have a GOP primary opponent, when law clerk Erick Arroyo filed a campaign account in the reporting period with a total of only $100.
Pearson’s numbers include more than $14,000 the candidate gave to himself, including bankrolling a kickoff event and campaign photos. Beyond that, much of Pearson’s support came from powerful lobbyists as well as 12 contributions from the environmental services industry totaling $4,350, $4,200 from 14 attorneys, and $6,800 from various developers and real-estate interests.
In addition to serving on the board of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Pearson founded 3E Consultants, an ecological services firm.
