Mutual insurers included in property insurance bill that Senate will debate today

A provision coined the mutual insurer incentive program is included in the large property insurance bill, SB 1770, that is slated for debate on the Senate floor today.  The proposal, if approved by lawmakers, would allow mutual insurance companies to participate in a surplus note program to aid in the depopulation efforts of Citizens.  Supporters of the proposal say it is a consumer-friendly, private sector solution  that would give some current Citizens policyholders an opportunity to leave the state-run insurer and get coverage from a trusted mutual insurer, while also reducing the overall risk of assessments for all Floridians.
