On Sunday, gubernatorial candidate and former state Sen. Nan Rich was the featured speaker at the St. Pete Democratic Club Memorial Day Picnic at the Bay Pines War Veterans Memorial Park.
The Weston Democrat was Democratic Party leader before term limits required her to leave the Senate.
Also at Sunday afternoon’s well-attended pre-Memorial Day event were several leading members of the Pinellas County Democratic Party, including former St. Petersburg City Council member Rene Flowers, current board member Steve Kornell, Rep. Dwight Dudley, state Senate candidate Judithanne McLauchlan and county commissioner Ken Welch.
Rich discussed her vision for the future of Florida, as part of the hope for her progressive platform to catch fire within the Pinellas County swing district. St. Petersburg is the home base of her chief Democrat opponent, former Republican governor Charlie Crist.
