Neal Dunn announces $700K fundraising for first 2 quarters in CD 2 race

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Republican candidate Neal Dunn announced his campaign had netted over $700,000 for the first two quarters of fundraising in the race for Florida’s 2nd Congressional District.

Dunn, a Panama City urologist, said his campaign raised more than $135,000 in contributions, with another $65,000 personally added to his campaign during the fourth quarter of 2015.

Dunn faces political newcomer Mary Thomas for the seat held by first-term U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham. Thomas is a Tallahassee lawyer who worked in the Rick Scott administration and was general counsel for the Department of Elder Affairs.

“I am humbled by the outpouring of support that I continue to receive for my bid to represent our local communities in U.S. Congress,” Dunn said. “Since announcing my campaign, I have had the privilege of getting out in our communities and hearing from the constituents what they want in their Congressman.

“What I am hearing is that they want action.”

In his statement, Dunn repeated his vow to, if elected, work toward repealing Obamacare, cut spending, help rebuild the military, and protect Second Amendment rights.

“I am the conservative candidate in this race with a passion and background to accomplish these important issues for our district, and look forward to continuing to get our message out to fellow Republicans on the campaign trail,” he said.

Since announcing his candidacy, Dunn has been endorsed by former U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, former Florida House Speakers Allan Bense and Will Weatherford, former Senate President Don Gaetz, and state Reps. Dennis Baxley, Jay Trumbull and Elizabeth Porter.
