A new TV spot in House District 40 attacks John Shannon by referring to him as “outrageous multi-millionaire trial lawyer” who has been through “20 years of tax troubles.”
Produced by a Venice-based PAC named “Legal Reform Now,” headed by Republican Eric Robinson, the 30-second ad suggests that Shannon believes there are “two sets of rules: one for him and one for everyone else.”
Among the ad’s accusations: Shannon amassed several thousand dollars in unpaid taxes, has been hit with a number of tax liens, and has been late paying property taxes a “staggering 70 percent of the time,” all while donating to a trial lawyer political committee used to attack other Republicans.
Shannon faces Colleen Burton in the Aug. 26 GOP primary for the Republican-leaning seat covering Lakeland and much of Polk County. The winner will face Democrat Ricky Shirah and American Independent Party candidate Franklin Shoemaker to replace term-limited Rep. Seth McKeel.
The ad is now available on YouTube.
