New poll shows overwhelming support to refurbish current Pier rather than build “The Lens”

New survey results released this morning by St. Pete Polls show why supporters of “The Lens” design for the new St. Petersburg Pier did not want the issue decided by referendum.

Sixty-eight percent of registered voters within the City of St Petersburg said they would prefer to “renovate the inverted pyramid Pier”, while just 32% of city residents think “The Lens” design should be built.

Last Thursday, by a 6-2 vote, the City Council rejected a plan to place a referendum related to the Pier on the November ballot. Instead, the Council agreed to continue with the $50 million proposal to develop the futuristic-looking deisgn known as “The Lens” to replace the existing inverted pyramid.
