NextGen Climate asks Marco Rubio to detail his energy plan

in 2017/Top Headlines by

NextGen Climate, the environmental PAC out of California led by Tom Steyer, is launching a new TV ad on Friday calling on Marco Rubio to lay out a concrete plan to power America with clean energy when he unveils his campaign’s platform later today.

The new television ad “What’s Your Plan?” features Rubio’s comments last week calling for the United States to lead on clean energy. At a campaign stop in New Hampshire, Rubio said, “I want us to lead the world in renewables. I want us to be a leader in solar, and wind and everything renewables.”

NextGen is pushing for all of the presidential candidates to back their goal to have half of the nation’s electricity generated from renewable or zero-carbon sources by 2030, and 100 percent by 2050.

Rubio has previously said that he would lift the current ban on crude oil exports, which has been in place since the 1970s. He also says he would target the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, which he called “one of the most expensive and costly regulations ever created.”
