According to the latest poll, House District 65 voters could be prepared to oust Democratic incumbent Carl Zimmermann and add another conservative to the already crimson Legislature.
A St. Pete Polls phone survey of 655 likely voted shows GOP hopeful Chris Sprowls with a razor’s edge lead over his school teacher opponent 50 percent to 46 percent.
House District 65 covers parts of North Pinellas County. Zimmermann won the district from Republican Peter Nehr in 2010 and now the GOP is throwing money at Sprowls to get it back.
The poll also shows the conservative-leaning district favoring Gov. Rick Scott over Charlie Crist 45 percent to 43 percent with Libertarian Adrian Wylie lingering just under 10 percent.
The poll was conducted Monday using the registered voter lists supplied by the state as of Sept. 4. Voters called included random samples of registered voters within the boundaries of House District 65.
The election is Nov. 4.
