Oenophiles rejoice!

Today, the Senate passed the Florida Wine Canister Act (HB623/SB658) with a unanimous and bipartisan vote. Filed by Senator Wilton Simpson and Representative Frank Artiles, this legislation removes antiquated red tape that arbitrarily limits wine container sizes in Florida.

“By updating these statutes that were written just after the prohibition era, the Legislature is effectively allowing Florida’s hospitality industry to proceed with custom tailored wine by the glass programs through innovative new methods, and with technology manufactured with my district,” said Senator Simpson.

With this legislation, Florida will join 36 other states that benefit from the distribution of wine canisters. This eco-friendly concept will result in Florida-based manufacturing jobs, increase wine by the glass options available for consumers, and allow Florida’s restaurants to reduce waste, decrease costs, and streamline services.

“I am very pleased that all 160 members of the Legislature recognize that these canisters benefit consumers, Florida’s tourism industry, and the environment and I’m proud to have sponsored this legislation,” said Senator Simpson. “I look forward to Governor Scott signing this good bill into law.”
