Pinellas County’s tallest building located in downtown St. Pete used to be called Bank of America tower. Then it changed to One Progress Plaza. Now it’s going to be called Priatek Plaza after a local tech start-up.

Priatek laid down roots in St. Pete as a digitally based advertising platform that connects customers to businesses through a gaming platform offering prizes in the form of coupons. Customers are reached through kiosks at various retail locations like shopping malls or airports and through a mobile app.

The business began with just two people working out of a home to a staff of 15. A naming ceremony is planned for September 17 at 1:30 p.m. Promoters expect between 100 and 150 people to attend.

Acccording to Darin Kucera, managing partner of Kucera Properties, which owns the building, research shows Priatek Plaza will be the only Class A office tower in the United States named for a technology startup.

“By assigning naming rights for this premier property to our tenant Priatek, we are signaling our firm’s belief in the West Florida region’s burgeoning technology sector and the visionary entrepreneurs who are making history here every day,” Kucera said. “This is exactly the type of high-quality tenant we are seeking to develop relationships with for the remaining space in our landmark building.”

“We want technology startups and mature technology companies not to be just a trend in the St. Petersburg region, but a long-term phenomenon,” Kucera said. “Renaming One Progress Plaza to Priatek Plaza is of major historic significance because it is an outward sign of our belief in that vision for our region.”

The renaming was announced in a press release Wednesday. Priatek Plaza stands at 28 floors, shooting 386 feet into the air. The building has more than 300,000 square feet of office and retail space. It’s currently 90 percent occupied with a 30,000- square-foot space on the market.

The details of the naming deal between Kucera and Priatek were not disclosed.
