Random voters polls are showing Republicans undecided in their primary for attorney general, but Pam Bondi is starting to pile up a Marco Rubio-like record of crushing wins in straw polls among party activists, including a landslide today in her home county of Hillsborough.
In a straw poll among members of the Hillsborough County Republican Party executive committee and the Republican clubs of Fishhawk and Brandon, Bondi got 273 votes to 7 for Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottcamp and 2 for former state Rep. Holly Benson.
From March on Politics: It’s predictable for Bondi, a former assistant state attorney from Tampa, to win her home county.
But the lopsided win wasn’t so predictable—Kottkamp is the only one of the three who’s ever run in a statewide race—and it’s not the first straw poll she’s won.
Bondi had another lopsided win Saturday in the Volusia County GOP straw poll—110 votes, while Kottkamp got 18 and Benson and the fourth candidate, Jim Lewis, combined for 5. That follows big wins in Seminole County last week and previously in Pinellas and Leon counties.
