The Pasco Democratic Executive Committee and the Pasco County National Organization for Women will organize a demonstration in response to votes by Senator Marco Rubio, keynote speaker at tonight’s Reagan Day Dinner. Rubio opposed both gun safety and the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
The protest will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Spartan Manor, Port Richey on April 30.
“Senator Rubio, Congressman Bilirakis, and our State and local Republicans office holders are failing to protect Pasco residents from gun violence. They vote against what 90% of Americans, including Republicans, want: background checks to reduce gun violence. They have sold out their constituents for the support of the NRA and Gun Lobby,” stated Dr. Lynn W. Lindeman Chair of the Pasco Democratic Executive Committee.
Pasco NOW President Doris Rosen said, “NOW believes no one should have to live in fear of violence, but both Representative Gus Bilirakis and Senator Marco Rubio voted against reauthorization of VAWA. On this and many other issues, they are out of touch with the women of Pasco County.”
