Patrick Murphy, the leading Democratic challenger to Tea Party leader Allen West in the race for Florida’s newly-drawn 18th Congressional district, announced a significant network and cable TV ad buy this afternoon. The campaign will air two 30-second spots – entitled “Builder” and “Playground” – beginning tomorrow.
“Builder” establishes Murphy’s background as a CPA, small businessman, and construction executive with private-sector experience creating jobs and getting things done.
Text: It happens out here on the job every day. You get different points of view, two ways to get it done. You can stand around arguing, but we’ve got a building to build. So you look at the plan, hire people, get everyone working together. I’m a businessman and a CPA. I know changing Washington won’t be easy. But we can start by sending a builder, not a talker.
“Playground” highlights the gridlock in Washington caused by the divisive rhetoric of the Tea Party and people like Allen West.
Text: Look, there’s no doubt Allen West says what he thinks. But the taunts, the name-calling, the bullying – Congress shouldn’t be a kids’ playground. They’re supposed to analyze problems and work together to solve them. There’s plenty to do: growing jobs; protecting Social Security, Medicare, a woman’s right to choose. Right now we need someone who’ll lead, not divide.
