Turning in nearly 6,000 signed petitions by the May deadline, Jupiter Democrat Patrick Murphy – a CPA and small businessman challenging Rep. Allen West – has officially made it on the ballot for the August 14th primary and November 6th general election.  The petition count almost triples the 2,298 required by the Florida Division of Elections, with 99% of the signatures coming from the three counties that make up the 18th congressional district.

“I am humbled by the support of the thousands of Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans across the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches who signed petitions to ensure my place on the ballot,” remarked Murphy.  “As a small businessman seeking to build consensus in Washington, I believe my candidacy offers a stark contrast to Congressman West’s extreme, divisive rhetoric.  I look forward to continuing to make my case to voters throughout the fall.”

Murphy was recently added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red-to-Blue” list, and remains among the top three Democratic fundraising challengers in the nation.  A recent poll for the campaign found the race against West a 45%-45% tie.
