U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy has won a second term in Congress for Florida’s 18th Congressional District.

The Jupiter Democrat defeated Republican former state Rep. Carl Domino by 20 points to continue representing the Treasure Coast region, St. Lucie and Martin Counties and part of Palm Beach County.

With more than one-third of precincts responding, Murphy leads Domino by a margin of 60 to 40 percent.

“I want to congratulate Patrick Murphy on his reelection. I know he will continue to be an independent voice for the people of Florida’s 18th Congressional District,” said Florida Democratic Party chair Allison Tant in a statement. “Over the last two years, Patrick has shown that he knows how to bring people together to break through the gridlock and get things done.

“With his reelection, I know Patrick will keep up the fight and get results for Florida’s middle class.”

As a former small businessperson, Murphy’s platform of independent common sense and pro-growth policies made him one of the few Democrats to receive the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
