Personnel note: Dan McCarthy joins Florida TaxWatch to lead Center for Smart Justice

Dan McCarthy was announced today as the new executive director of the Florida TaxWatch Center for Smart Justice. In this position, McCarthy will lead the efforts of Florida TaxWatch to improve the Florida criminal and juvenile justice systems. 

“I am pleased to announce that Dan will lead the TaxWatch Center for Smart Justice in its push for smarter and safer criminal and juvenile justice systems in Florida,” said Florida TaxWatch chief Dominic Calabro. “Dan is a valuable addition to the strong research team we have developed at TaxWatch, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”

Prior to joining Florida TaxWatch, McCarthy worked at Holland & Knight, served as the Director for the City of Jacksonville, Chief Assistant State Attorney for the 4th Circuit, and a Director at Wounded Warrior Project. 

“Dan’s background and committment to public service is exactly what is needed to ensure the TaxWatch Center for Smart Justice continues to make substantive impacts on justice reform,” said John Zumwalt, Florida TaxWatch’s chairman. 

“Dan brings extensive knowledge about the criminal justice system to TaxWatch,” said Justice Kenneth Bell, the TaxWatch Center for Smart Justice Advisory Board chairman. “His experience will allow the Center to continue identifying solutions to improve Florida’s justice systems for state taxpayers.”
