Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni announced Wednesday that he is battling cancer.

Morroni, 56, said doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center reconfirmed that non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma had returned on Tuesday.

Morroni said he plans to work through his treatments as he did when he was diagnosed in 2008. He missed one meeting over six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation.

Morroni was elected to serve as chairman of the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners last week. His first meeting as chair is scheduled for Jan. 10.
