Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri is making his feelings known — early — about who his preferred choice is in next year’s race for House District 65.
Gualtieri today endorsed Chris Sprowls, the Republican running to represent the legislative seat covering the communities of Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Palm Harbor and East Lake.
The Sheriff cited Sprowls’ commitment to the residents of Pinellas in his endorsement “No one can match Chris Sprowls’ dedication to the health, safety and wellbeing of the most vulnerable among us. From protecting kids in school to defending our seniors and veterans from abuse, I trust Chris Sprowls to always put our residents first.”
Sprowls, 29, is an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Pinellas and Pasco Counties. Sprowls is currently assigned as a Special Prosecutor in the Gang Unit and has prosecuted dozens of serious felonies such as crimes against children, defrauding the elderly, and 1st degree murder.
Gualtieri noted Chris’ knowledge of public safety issues “As a prosecutor Chris knows what it takes to keep our community safe,” said Gualtieri, “Having Chris Sprowls in the Florida House will ensure that Pinellas County has the tools it needs to keep our families safe.”
“I’m humbled by Sheriff Gualtieri’s Endorsement”, said Sprowls. “As a prosecutor I have worked with law enforcement to combat the prescription pill epidemic, keep our children away from spice, and sought to keep dangerous criminals behind bars. Keeping our community safe is about more than talking, it is about action, Sheriff Gualtieri is an action oriented leader and I look forward to continuing to work alongside him.”
