Pinellas Sheriff’s race only gets more competitive as Everett Rice pulls in $70K, Bob Gualtieri hauls $65K

The Pinellas County sheriff’s race continues to be where the competition is the highest, with former Sheriff Everett Rice and current Sheriff Bob Gualtieri neck and neck in fundraising.*

Rice raised $70,690 to Gualtieri’s $64,990 for the Republican primary. No one else is even in the same universe.

While Rice’s numbers continue to impress, I am also impressed with Gualtieri’s ability to raise that kind of money, considering the headlines his office is enduring.

That first sentence is an homage to former Tampa Bay Times reporter Dave DeCamp, who I must admit I miss today. DeCamp and I would race all day against each other for who could scoop fundraising reports. Now there’s no one at the Times bothering to post these numbers.
