Lakeland Attorney and Marine Corps veteran John Shannon is maintaining a stable 13-point advantage over his Republican opponent, Colleen Burton, in the lead up to Tuesday’s GOP primary for House District 40.
In the latest StPetePolls survey, Shannon leads Burton overall by a margin of 49-36 percent of likely Republican voters in the GOP primary. Just under 16 percent of respondents remain undecided.
With voters who have already cast ballots, more than half (51 percent) supported Shannon, compared to 41 percent for Burton, who is a former executive director of Polk Vision.
Of those in HD 40 who are planning to vote on Tuesday, Shannon also leads by 14 points, 47-33 percent, with 20 percent undecided.
The two Republicans are facing off for who will be the GOP nominee to replace term-limited Rep. Seth McKeel for the Republican-leaning seat covering metropolitan Lakeland and much of Polk County.
Commissioned by SaintPetersBlog, the telephone poll has a +/- 7.3 percent margin of error and 95 percent confidence level.
