The Florida Press Corps takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

in Uncategorized by

The Capitol Press Corps Friday responded to the Ice Bucket Challenge issued by the Florida Cabinet.  Associated Press reporter and Press Corps president Gary Fineout was joined by the Times/Herald’s Capitol Bureau’s Tia Mitchell and Rochelle Koff and News Service of Florida reporters, Margie Menzell, Jim Turner and Tom Urban in having ice water dumped on their heads outside of the Florida Press Association building in Tallahassee.

When three members of the Florida Cabinet, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and CFO Jeff Atwater participated in the ALS fundraiser Tuesday they challenged members of the press.

The challenges raise money for the ALS Association, a fatal muscle disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In recent weeks the association has raised more than $13 million dollars through the stunt. Participants’ videos have gone viral and they often included a challenge to a friend to take part or donate $100 to the ALS Association.

Fineout and the others didn’t issue a challenge to anyone but one reporter was seen walking around with a check and asking where to send a donation.
