A walkway overlooking I-275 was lit up Wednesday night by large hand-held signs protesting local GOP Congressman Bill Young.
“Rep Young End Top 2% Tax Cuts”, read the sign. The sign was in response to Young’s stance on not increasing taxes on the top two percent of income earners in the U.S. The action was heightened by the ongoing heated fiscal cliff debates in Washington D.C.
The Florida Consumer Action Network organized Wednesday night’s demonstration.
“We wanted to let Congressman Young know that we expect him to do the right thing and listen to the constituents of his district by supporting an end to the tax cuts for the Top 2% of Americans while extending them for middle class families,” said Amanda Sliby of FCAN in a news release. “It’s time for Congressman Young to stop holding tax cuts for 98% of Americans hostage to protect tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.”
Members of FCAN held up the signs for about 45 minutes in what was called the “Overpass Light Brigade.” The group hopes to use the signs again for future demonstrations.
