Eugene Robinson, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and associate editor at The Washington Post, will be the keynote speaker for the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club’s Annual Dinner on January 30, 2013.

In addition to Robinson’s speech, the event will included tributes to former Governor Kenneth “Buddy” McKay, former State Senator Dennis Jones, and Tampa Bay Times reporter Lucy Morgan (a Pulitzer Prize winner herself). The Annual Dinner — themed “A Night With The Tigers” – will be held at the St. Petersburg Marriott.

A 30-year veteran of the Post, Robinson launched his twice-weekly column on the paper’s op-ed page in February 2005, and within a year it was syndicated to more than 130 newspapers – making it the fastest-growing column in the history of the Washington Post Writers Group. In 2009, he won The Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his columns about the 2008 presidential campaign and the election of President Barack Obama.

Robinson is also a regular commentator on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and also appears frequently on MSNBC, CNN and other media outlets.

“The Suncoast Tiger Bay Club has a long history of bringing in first-rate, nationally recognized opinion leaders,” said Annual Dinner Co-Chair Janet Long. “Mr. Robinson’s appearance fits perfectly into this rich history.”

Founded in 1978 to foster a better understanding of public issues, the Suncoast Tiger Bay is a unique, non-partisan political club. It meets regularly for lunch (usually twice a month) to hear guest speakers on all types of political and public issues of interest. The Club’s Annual Dinner is one of the community’s premiere events, typically featuring a keynote speaker and an awards presentation for recipients of the club’s distinguished awards.

This year, the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club will honor Senator Jones with the Benjamin Franklin Award for his exemplary public leadership, while Morgan will be given the Thomas Paine Award for her extraordinary integrity, courage and achievement.

“It was already going to be an exciting evening with Eugene Robinson speaking to the Club.” said Annual Dinner Co-Chair Peter Schorsch. “Then you add Dennis Jones and Lucy Morgan to the program and I believe we will have a blockbuster, can’t miss event.”

The Annual Dinner is being sponsored by the Tampa Bay Times and Tucker Hall.
