At 12:00 p.m., qualifying for judicial candidates — both those running for Circuit Judge and those running for County Judge — officially gets underway.
Will there be any surprises in Pinellas-Pasco and the Sixth Judicial Circuit?
There are three open seats in this circuit, but they haven’t drawn a lot of attention.
Tom Ramsberger has built a healthy warchest and remains unopposed for Seat 11. These are undoubtedly nervous times for Ramsberger who deserves a place on the bench, but would like to get there without a campaign.
In Seat 15, Bill Burgess is facing off against popular Safety Harbor Mayor Andy Steingold. Both candidates will be keeping an eye out to see if a third candidate jumps into the race.
In Seat 31, two good people, Kim Campbell and Brian Battaglia are squaring-off. I doubt a third candidate will get into this race because of how strong both Campbell and Battaglia are perceived.
The only county race in competition is an open seat pitting Scott Andringa, Cathy McKyton and Steve Nelson against each other. Undoubtedly, this race will go to a run-off between Andringa and McKyton, so perhaps Nelson won’t file.
Of course, there are certainly a few possible candidates sitting out there waiting until the qualifying window closes on Friday. We’ll be watching closely right up until 12:01 p.m.
