As lawmakers in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. work to find a way to accept federal money for a central Florida bullet train without Gov. Rick Scott’s approval, a former Tampa Bay City council member will hold a “Rally for High Speed Rail” today. The event, which will be co-sponsored by former Tampa City councilwoman Linda Saul-Sena and the Livable Tampa Roundtable group, comes as U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has given Florida a week to come up with a way to accept the $2.4 billion that was on the table.
