Detectives caught two cattle thieves when a red-light camera showed the men running a traffic light towing a trailer with stolen Herefords in December.
“Isn’t it interesting that one of the oldest theft schemes was stopped by one of the most modern tools?” asked Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd at a news conference.
Ed Davis of Auburndale has been a victim of cattle thieves before and had even spent the night in his fields with them on occasion to deter rustlers, according to the Lakeland Ledger.
Andres Trujillo, 37, of 914 E. Paris St. in Tampa, was on probation for stealing cattle and the red-light camera took a photo of his truck at 3 a.m. on the day of the theft in Haines City. He and an accomplice from Haileah were arrested this week.
