Rep. Bovo leaving House, date for Miami's special election set

Rep. Esteban Bovo, R-Hialeah, said Friday he is leaving the House to run for Miami-Dade County Commission in a special election to replace a recalled commissioner, reports the News Service of Florida. Bovo has said a few times lately that being so far away from his young family has been hard. ?aising kids through Skype is just no way to do things,?Bovo said on the floor Friday. Bovo, who was elected in 2008, will be running for Natacha Seijas?seat on the commission. She was ousted in a recall. Bovo said the debates in the Legislature are inspiring for someone who represents so many who came from Cuba. ?he debates on this floor, the discussions on this floor, no matter how intense, is a testament to our democracy,” Bovo said in a brief farewell speech. Late Friday, Gov. Rick Scott announced a special primary election will be held May 24 with a special general election on June 28 to find a replacement for Bovo in House District 110.
