Rep. Darren Soto files to run for newly drawn, Hispanic-friendly state Senate seat

State Rep. Darren Soto, D-Orlando, filed papers Thursday to run for a Central Florida Senate seat. Soto has long been discussed as a potential Senate candidate and filed to run in the newly drawn District 14, which is slated to include parts of Orange, Osceola and Polk counties. Soto, who was elected to the House in 2007, had raised $22,000 in campaign contributions as of Dec. 31, according to state records.
