Rep. Darryl Rouson 'outraged' at Rick Scott's "conversion" on voting rights

Representative Darryl Rouson reacted to statements Gov. Rick Scott made on CNN this morning.

“It is outrageous that it took a national embarrassment for Gov. Scott to see that his voting changes are wrong.  I welcome the conversation Gov. Scott has had on voting rights and early voting,” Rouson said.  “The problem is that many of us gave warnings of the pending election embarrassment but the Governor chose not to listen.  Many of the House Democrats and Senators gave warning to Gov. Scott in 2011 before he signed the very law that caused these problems.  I said on the floor in Tallahassee two years ago that these changes were a solution in search of a problem and that it set bad policy.”

Rouson continued, “Moreover, former Gov. Charlie Crist called on Gov. Scott to use his powers to expand early voting before the election.  Scott did nothing.  It’s unfortunate for the voters in Florida that the listening is coming late but fortunately, we can fix this damage in Session.”
