State Representative Doug Holder today launched his campaign for the newly-drawn Florida House of Representatives District 74 seat, which encompasses South Sarasota County, including the cities of Osprey, Nokomis, Venice and parts of North Port and Englewood. Representative Holder was first elected to the House of Representatives District 70 seat in 2006, and was subsequently reelected to continue his service to the people of former District 70.

“I feel honored to have served the people of Sarasota County in the Florida House of Representatives, and am proud that in my time in the House, we have been able to reduce government spending, eliminate burdensome regulations on small businesses, and create economic incentives for businesses to create jobs here in Florida,” said Representative Holder. “However, there is still much work to be done and I humbly ask for the opportunity to continue representing Sarasota County in Tallahassee. I am determined to keep fighting to hold government accountable, to reduce the size of government, and to improve Florida’s overall education and academic standards. We must continue to push for these reforms in order to create a more sustainable and vibrant economy both in Sarasota County and in our great state.”

Doug Holder is currently a State Representative from Sarasota County and local business man. He was first elected to former House District 70 in 2006, an office he has held for six years. Since his election, Holder has held notable leadership positions within the House of Representatives, such as chairman of the Business & Consumer Affairs Subcommittee and co-chair of the Congressional Redistricting Subcommittee. Holder has also served on the House Economic Affairs, Health & Human Services, and Rules & Calendar Committees.

As an active voice and figure in the community, Holder is locally involved as a trustee of the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and a statesman of the Republican Party of Sarasota.

His commitment spans the state and nationwide, as he is also involved with the Florida Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Advisory Council, who awarded him Businessman of the Year in 2004. Holder also holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association and serves as the honorary co-chair of the NRCC Business Advisory Council.
