Florida House District 38 hopeful Danny Burgess received a new GOP endorsement today from State Rep. Jose Felix Diaz.
Burgess is running as a Republican to succeed term-limited House Speaker Will Weatherford.
House District 38 represents Dade City, Lacoochee, San Antonio and Crystal Springs.
Diaz is the two-term Republican from House District 116, which covers University Park, Sunset and Kendall in Miami-Dade County.
“A young, energetic, conservative problem-solver, Danny Burgess is the kind of Republican leader this State needs. Danny and I are both young husbands and fathers, lawyers and businessmen, and deeply concerned for the future of our State,” said Diaz in a statement released today. “I am proud to endorse him and look forward to working with a principled young leader like Danny.”
Burgess is an East Pasco County native, and voted to the Zephyrhills City Council, as the youngest elected official in the State of Florida at age 18.
In 2013, Burgess also became the youngest mayor in Zephyrhills history at the age of 27.
“There is no doubt that Jose Felix Diaz is a rising star, both in Florida, and nationally for the GOP,” Burgess responded. “To have the support of such a principled reformer is truly exciting and I am eager to work with him as we work to create a brighter future for Florida.”
Prior to becoming Zephyrhills mayor, Burgess served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army, as well as acting as Judge Advocate General. He currently practices at law at Johnson, Auvil, Pratico & Chane.
