Less than two months after getting elected to the Florida House, Pensacola Republican Mike Hill got national exposure when he appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” political talk show.
The show is hosted by former Panhandle Congressman Joe Scarborough, who has known Hill for years. Hill, the only black Republican in the Legislature, offered a tea party-flavored message, saying the U.S. Constitution is being “attacked” and ignored by the government. He said his conservative message was attractive to voters. “Northwest Florida is a very conservative part of the state,” Hill said. “So that message resonated well with both Republicans and Democrats, and we surprised everyone by staying on that message and winning.”
