State Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart has assembled his campaign team for the special election for Senate District 6. The qualifying period for the Jan. 27 primary is less than two weeks away but Renuart said he’s hitting the airwaves now with his first commercial – which can be seen here.
Mark Zubaly will serve as the campaign’s general consultant. Zubaly is a partner in Southern Campaign Resources and Summit Communications. Renuart used Southern Campaign in this year’s re-election campaign for House District 17.
Renuart has named Matthew Carpenter as campaign director. Carpenter managed voter contact efforts in St. Johns County for Gov. Rick Scott’s re-election campaign, including an early voter push and absentee ballot chase. Carpenter’s St. Johns experience may be a factor in a special election where turnout is expected to be low. Renuart’s House District is wholly contained in St. Johns County. He was re-elected with about 50,000 votes.
Ryan Wiggins will serve as the campaign’s media and messaging consultant. Wiggins has handled communications work for a variety of state agencies and Congressman Jeff Miller.
“I could not be more excited to have this highly skilled and talented team in place,” said Renuart.
In the campaign’s first commercial, Renuart reminds voters he is opposed to Obamacare and pledges to be “a strong conservative voice,” who supports “smaller government, fewer taxes and more personal responsibility.”
State Rep. Travis Hutson and Renuart are the two current candidates for the Jan. 27 Republican primary.
A third announced candidate is Democrat David Cox.
The special election to fill the vacancy created when John Thrasher resigned to be president at Florida State University is set for April 7.
