Republicans denied an attempt to book event inside same hotel as Charlie Crist’s party

Efforts by Florida Republicans to possibly interfere with the election night festivities of Charlie Crist’s campaign have been thwarted, confirms hotel staff at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66.

Earlier today, Anthony Man of the Sun-Sentinel reported that Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera and local supporters of Governor Rick Scott will demonstrate outside the hotel where Crist is expected to a accept his party’s nomination in the governor’s race.

An email was sent Tuesday to members of the Broward Republican Party inviting them to participate in the demonstration. Broward County Republican chairman Tom Truex confirmed  plans were underway to protest outside of Crist’s victory party.

Protesting outside the event appears to not be enough for some Republicans. Staff at the Hyatt tell me they are not accepting a last-minute dinner reservation for a party of 25 attempting to be booked at the hotel’s steakhouse under the name of an unspecified (but recognizable-to-the-staff) local activist.

In addition to blocking that reservation, hotel staff has reportedly beefed-up security.

Left unclear is whether a headshot of Susan Hepworth has been circulated among hotel security.
