Rick Kriseman: Florida House 'under attack' from Expedia

Rep. Rick Kriseman, D-St. Petersburg, sent an e-mail Thursday to lawmakers charging that the House is “under attack” because of subpoenas issued by the online-travel company Expedia, reports the News Service of Florida. A Leon County circuit judge Wednesday said Expedia attorneys could ask Kriseman and an aide limited questions during depositions in a lawsuit about the amounts of hotel taxes that online-travel companies should pay. Expedia subpoenaed the pair because Kriseman in May distributed potentially damaging internal company documents to other House members. Kriseman made clear in the e-mail to House members Wednesday that he will not back away from his criticism of the online companies — and again sent the internal Expedia documents as an attachment. He also praised House General Counsel George Levesque for arguing that lawmakers should not be subpoenaed to testify on issues such as the online-travel tax dispute. “What is important here, and the reason I am sending you this email, is that our institution is under attack,” Kriseman said in the e-mail.
