Rick Kriseman’s cheap shot at Charlie Crist over Trayvon Martin incident

THIS is why people have problems with Rick Kriseman.

THIS is why Rick Kriseman is so disliked in Tallahassee.

THIS is why people hesitate about whether he would be an effective Mayor of St. Petersburg.

On Tuesday morning, while much of the state, if not the country, is engrossed by the horrors and injustice surrounding the Trayvon Martin incident, Rep. Rick Kriseman took to Twitter and said…

@rickkriseman: Not-so-fun fact: NRA’s Hammer was nominated to Women’s Hall of Fame by Charlie Crist same year she championed ‘Stand Your Ground’ law.

@rickkriseman: He called her a “freedom fighter who has expanded the freedoms”. I like Charlie, but this is a good reminder of his roots.

Say what?

A 17-year-old has been killed at the hands of a zealot who is shielded by the ridiculous “Stand Your Ground” law and Rick Kriseman thinks its an appropriate time to call out Charlie Crist because Crist nominated someone to the Women’s Hall of Fame.

I get it that Crist is, even now as an independent, a staunch supporter of the NRA.  And the NRA did advocate for the “Stand Your Ground” legislation to be passed into law.  But there’s a time and a place for offering criticism over such a specious connection. And now is not that time.

Of course, something tells me Kriseman’s ever-present aide, Kevin King, may have behind this Tweet.
