Gov. Scott announces six state appointments

Gov. Rick Scott announced four new appointments and two reappointments on Friday to a variety of statewide regulatory boards.

Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida

Joseph Jernigan, 74, of Graceville, is owner of Jernigan Forest Products and Arnold Lumber Company. He succeeds David Melvin for a term ending April 30, 2015.

School Board of Highlands County

Jill Compton, 38, of Sebring, has been an educator with the School Board of Highlands County since 1998. She fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Andy Tuck for a term ending November 11.

Halifax Hospital Medical Center Board of Commissioners

Thomas McCall, 46, of Ormond Beach, is chief operating officer and chief financial officer of ICI Homes Inc. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending May 23, 2017.

Karen Jans, 56, of Daytona Beach, is a consultant. She was previously an associate vice president at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and an assistant vice president at the University of Central Florida. She is a board member of Tiger Bay of Volusia and a member of the Halifax Civic League. Jans’ reappointment ends May 23, 2018.

Dr. John Johnson, 68, of Ormond Beach, is president of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a member of the Association of Independent Technology Universities and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Johnson’s reappointment ends May 23, 2018.

Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council

Pieter Bockweg, 39, of Miami, is executive director of the Miami Omni & Midtown Community Redevelopment Agency. He succeeds Neil Crilly for a term ending August 19, 2017.
