Rick Scott defends Medicaid remarks, says he was ‘editorialized’

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Rick Scott‘s office came out fighting Friday after The Associated Press published a story saying that the governor “conceded” that his earlier support of a Medicaid expansion was a “ruse.”

“The AP incorrectly characterized the governor’s comments,” said a news release issued by Scott’s Communications Director Jackie Schutz.

Scott was asked by a reporter at a media availability Thursday whether his support of the expansion in 2013 was a “lie.” Scott avoided directly answering the question and said his 2013 announcement came the day the state received approval from the federal government to extend its Medicaid 1115 waiver for three years.

The AP ran a report on Friday saying the governor’s support was a “ruse.”

“Unfortunately, the AP editorialized the governor’s statement,” Schutz’s release said.
