Rick Scott gives the Legislature the cold shoulder

With just over a week left in the legislative session — and with his two priorities, a $2,500 across-the-board pay raise for teachers and a tax cut on manufacturing equipment — languishing in the House and Senate, Governor Rick Scott has decided to officially give the Legislature the cold shoulder.

One source says the Governoris office sent the legislative affairs staff home around lunch today and instructed them not to speak with legislators. If they did happen to answer their phones and a legislator was on the other line,  they weree only to discuss the Governor’s two priorities.

Gary Fineout tweeted tonight that there are conflicting reports about the veracity of this rumor. A spokeswoman for Scott says “everyone is working hard.”

That said, Representative Richard Corcoran told the Sun Sentinel‘s Kathleen Haughney that it’s been a couple of days since he last spoke with Scott about the minor issue of expanding Medicaid.

Fueling speculation that Scott is brushing his shoulder off is his schedule for Friday, when he will travel to Washington D.C. to meet with the Wall Street Journal, Fox News and POLITICO.
