Both the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Florida are responding to news that former Florida Republican governor turned Democrat Charlie Crist has filed paperwork to run for his old job with his new party.
“Charlie Crist only cares about what’s best for Charlie – not what’s best for Florida. Crist had his chance and he turned his back on Floridians to further his own political career,” said RNC Spokesman Ryan Mahoney. “Governor Scott has made the right choices to get Florida back on track and now is not the time to go backward to the failed policies of Charlie Crist. Crist left the state in fiscal disarray once before and voters won’t let him do it again.”
The Republican Party of Florida was even more blunt.
“Charlie Crist has now officially filed to run for the position he once abandoned,” said Florida GOP chair Lenny Curry. “When Florida needed Charlie Crist the most during difficult economic times, he ran away. If he really wants to be Governor now, why did he quit the first time?”
The state Division of Elections posted Crist’s filing on its website Friday.
