Florida Republicans stepped up to the plate in a big way for House District 5 GOP hopeful Brad Drake, who raised more than $24,000 last month, bolstered by a substantial boost from the Republican Party of Florida.

The former Republican House representative collected $24,550 in donations in May, giving him a total of $255,955, with more than $165,000 cash-on-hand.

Brad Drake’s May fundraising numbers — topped off by $24,000 from the RPOF — puts him more than $100,000 ahead of his nearest GOP opponent Jan Hooks, whose most recent numbers are pending.

Drake is vying for the seat covering part of Bay County, as well as Walton, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties.

A Northwest Florida native, Drake served in the Florida House from 2008 to 2012. After redistricting in 2012, Brad Drake’s seat was merged with that of Rep. Marti Coley of Marianna, whom he chose to support for re-election.

Drake was a legislative aide for state Rep. Don Brown before seeking his seat in 2008. He currently serves on the Northwest Florida State College Board of Directors.
