Rubio warns Obama will use “stroke of a pen” to legitimize immigrants if House fails to act

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio warned that President Barack Obama could legitimize millions of undocumented immigrants with the stroke of a pen if Congress doesn’t act now on immigration reform.

Rubio appeared Tuesday on the Tallahassee talk radio program “The Morning Show with Preston Scott,” cautioning that Obama would be “tempted” to use executive order if the House does not address the immigration issue.

Rubio’s House colleagues would then lose ground on other significant reforms, such as national  and border security, as well as financial matters.

Rubio was a member of the “Gang of Eight” who created a bill on comprehensive immigration reform passed by the Senate in June.

“I have been saying for more than a year that I believe that this president will be tempted to issue an executive order,” Rubio said, “like he did for the DREAM Act kids a year ago, where he basically legalizes 11 million people by the sign of a pen.”

In 2012, the Obama administration broke off deporting immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. The policy has an effect on as many as 800,000 people, referred to as “DREAMers.”

“We won’t get any E-Verify, we won’t get any border security, but he’ll legalize them,” he added.
