Marco Rubio’s congressional supporters to come out for D.C. events

From CQ: Gov. Charlie Crist (R) may be endorsed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee but his primary challenger, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio (R), isn’t without his own big name backers in Washington, D.C. And those supporters are coming out in force during Rubio’s visit to Washington, D.C. later this month.

Florida Reps. Ginny Brown-Waite and Jeff Miller, who have both endorsed Rubio, are headlining a meet and greet event on Dec. 15 to introduce Rubio around the Capitol Hill Community. That event isn’t a fundraiser, but Rubio’s gathering later that night with Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.) will be.

Rubio is trying to position himself to the right of Crist in the primary and has attacked the governor for being too moderate when it comes to issues like spending and taxes. His supporters believe Rubio is the “real Republican” in the race and have lashed out at the NRSC for moving quickly to endorse Crist after the governor entered the race. Sen. James Inhofe (Okla.) is one other conservative champion in Congress who is supporting Rubio.
