Florida House Minority Leader Franklin Sands, D-Weston, said it’s way too early to assume the Democratic Party will have a terrible year.
“On a national level, it’s anybody’s guess. On a state level I think it’s anybody’s guess,” he said in the place where Democrats from across Florida are gathering Saturday afternoon – the lobby of the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood for the party’s big Jefferson-Jackson weekend.
“It’s a very long distance from here to November,” Sands said. “This is the point where candidates are just being introduced to the public, with the exception of Charlie Crist.
“It’s not on their radar screen at this point. It really picks up toward the end of September, early October. Political years are even longer than dog years. From here to November is forever in politics.”
