Florida State sophomore quarterback Deondre Francois has been lost for the season after suffering an injury near the end of Saturday night’s 24-7 loss to Alabama. The Tallahassee Democrat reports Francois tore the patella tendon in his left knee and will undergo surgery as early as Tuesday.
Seminoles players, coaches and fans feared the worst after Francois was carted off the field late in the game after being sacked from behind. He was clutching his knee and left the field on a cart.
Ironically, the hit on Francois was delivered by the Crimson Tide’s Ronnie Harrison, who starred at Florida High. On Sunday, Harrison took to Twitter to wish Francois the best.
“Praying for (Francois),” he tweeted. “Hit was Not Intentional. I hope you have a speedy recovery bra! #BiggerThanAGame #Respect.”
Stepping in to finish the game at quarterback was freshman James Blackman from Belle Glade. The 6-foot, 5-inch Blackman will start Saturday’s home opener against Louisiana Monroe.
