State Sen. Jeff Brandes, less than a month after winning re-election, joins House members Dane Eagle and Bill Hager in looking ahead to the next campaign, by filing paperwork with the state Division of Elections.
Brandes, the Republican from St. Petersburg, filed to run again in 2018. Eagle and Hager did the same for re-election to House seats in 2016.
Brandes defeated Democrat Judithanne McLauchlan in Senate District 22 covering Pinellas and Hillsborough. Eagle defeated a write-in candidate for Lee County’s House District 77. Hager won over Democrat David Silvers in Palm Beach County’s House District 89.
Stuart Democrat Crystal Mills Lucas also filed paperwork this week to challenge Republican state Rep. Gayle Harrell in 2016. Harrell faced no opposition this year in House District 83, which covers parts of Martin and St. Lucie counties. Once the paperwork is filed, candidates can begin to raise money for races.
