Sen. John Legg announced his gratitude for Gov. Rick Scott’s support for a proposed Tampa Bay-based aeronautics academy, part of the recently signed 2014-15 Florida budget.
The Republican from Lutz represents Senate District 17, which includes parts of Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. Legg spearheaded the $1.5 million project, known as the Tampa Bay Region Aeronautics Academy, as a collaboration between the Tampa International Airport, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas County School Districts.
“I applaud the courage and foresight of Governor Rick Scott,” Legg said. “He is sending a clear pro-education message. The Governor’s support of the Tampa Bay Region Aeronautics Academy forges partnerships at the high school, collegiate and industry levels and bolsters the link between education and the economy.
“This regional academy will establish further growth in aeronautics, a critical industry to both the history and future of Florida.”
The academy will be the first of its kind, to serve high school students from Tampa Bay area who are interested in aeronautics and aviation. This distinctive learning opportunity will provide advanced training and industry certifications in high-skill and high-demand areas.
