Sen. Rhonda Storms to run for Hills. Co. Property Appraiser; move creates open State Senate seat

At a news conference today, State Sen. Ronda Storms will formally announce her plan to run for Hillsborough County Property Appraiser against dead-man-walking, incumbent Rob Turner.

***Update – 2:06 p.m.***Former Democratic State Rep. Bob Henriquez is filing right now to also run for Hills. Co. Property Appraiser.

“The current property appraiser has embarrassed the office, the party, and himself and I intend to restore integrity, accountability, and professionalism to the office,” Storms said in a press release.

Storms’s move will create an open State Senate seat in East Hillsborough for which any number of candidates are likely to run. Former Senator Tom Lee seems to be the leading candidate to replace Storms.  But Reps. Rachel Burgin and Shawn Harrison may have something to say about that.

This certainly throws the race for Senate President back into disarray; Storms was a definite vote for Jack Latvala in his unofficial battle against John Thrasher.  I’m not exactly sure with whom Lee would stand.
