Today Senate Bill 1660, State Senator Eleanor Sobel? (D-Hollywood) ?olocaust Rail Justice?bill, passed the Senate Transportation Committee with a unanimous vote.

The bill requires any company involved in the transportation of Holocaust victims to disclose that involvement before being allowed to bid on a contract with the State of Florida. ?lorida has one of the highest populations of Holocaust survivors in the world,?said Sobel. ?e owe it to the survivors and our own sense of justice to ensure that if a company wants to do business with this state, it has made amends for its role in one of the greatest crimes in recorded history.?

Sen. Sobel? bill would require a company to describe its role in the Holocaust and also provide details on any reparations it may have provided to survivors or their families, before it may bid on a contract with the state. Companies may also submit mitigating factors, such as evidence of forced participation. Several other states, including California, have passed similar laws.
The bill? next stop is the Senate Budget Committee.
