A Senate bill unanimously approved on Tuesday bans sexually explicit pictures taken as a form of harassment, otherwise known as “revenge porn,”

Sponsored by Sen. David Simmons, SB 532 focuses on people using social media to intimidate others by sending sexually explicit images.

If passed, violators could face second-degree misdemeanor charges. The violation becomes a first-degree misdemeanor if (at the time of the offence) images are of individuals under age 16 and the harassers are older than 18.

Committees have not yet heard the attendant House bill (HB 475).
